DVD version:

The blu-ray release of Monsters, Inc. is rather fabulous. Find yourself the four-disc ‘combo-pack’ and you get two blu-ray discs, the movie also on standard DVD, plus a digital copy for loading onto your computer or portable player.

The blu-ray version looks marvellous in 1080p high definition, with English language sound in 5.1 DTS-HD master audio, along with French and Spanish tracks plus subtitles in the same three languages.

The first disc includes the feature film, an audio commentary and two short films (For the Birds and Mike’s New Car). There’s also a discussion among filmmakers looking back on the creation of the film and a featurette on the Monsters Inc. attraction at Tokyo’s Disneyland.

The second blu-ray disc is loaded with more extras, so many that I couldn’t possibly list all of them here (you can cram a lot on a blu-ray disc). Highlights include a game (Roz’s 100-Door Challenge) and Pixar Fun Factory Tour, which is a tour of the Pixar studio, led by head honcho John Lasseter. There are deleted scenes, storyboard to film comparisons, featurettes on the movie’s story, visual design, set dressing, locations, characters, animation process, music and sound. There are outtakes, trailers and TV spots, footage from the movie’s premiere and fun little clips featuring the movie’s characters. And on it goes.

Anyone who’s really into Monsters, Inc. is going to be enthralled with all of this extra material.
